About this service
Shower repairs in Kingston upon Thames: electric, mixer and thermostatic
Electric showers, mixer showers, thermostatic units and pumped power showers — we repair every type in homes across Kingston upon Thames. If yours is beyond economic repair, we'll quote a replacement honestly.
We start with the simple checks, such as the head, hose, filters and isolation valves, before anyone suggests a new shower.
Electric shower repair
No heat, a tripping fuse, a low-pressure light or water that goes cold after a minute usually points to a failed heating element, a solenoid valve or a scaled inlet filter. Where the unit is old, a like-for-like replacement is often quicker and cheaper than parts.
Mixer and thermostatic showers
A shower that swings between hot and cold, or will not get hot at all, normally needs a new thermostatic cartridge. Stiff or dripping controls are worn seals. Most cartridges are replaced without disturbing the tiles.
Leaking shower trays and enclosures
Water appearing on the ceiling below is usually failed silicone, cracked grout, a loose waste or a tray that has dropped. We find which before anything is resealed, because sealing over the wrong fault only hides it.
New shower installation
Electric, mixer and thermostatic showers fitted, with a pump or pressure upgrade where the system needs one. See low water pressure if weak flow is the real problem.

Limescale and shower faults in Kingston's hard water
Hard water is behind most shower faults in Kingston, Norbiton, Surbiton and New Malden. Scale blocks shower heads and inlet filters, coats electric shower elements and seizes thermostatic cartridges.
Descaling the head every few months and replacing a cartridge when it first stiffens usually adds years to a shower. We cover the whole borough, including Berrylands, Tolworth, Chessington and Hook.
Water coming through the ceiling below a shower is often a hidden leak, so see leak detection. We also do tap repairs and toilet repairs as your local Kingston plumber.

Frequently asked
Shower repair FAQs
Why has my shower gone cold?
On an electric shower, a failed element or thermal cut-out. On a mixer or thermostatic shower, a worn cartridge or a problem with the hot water supply. If the hot taps are cold too, the fault is with the boiler or cylinder, not the shower.
Can you replace an electric shower like for like?
Usually, yes. If the new unit has the same power rating and similar pipe and cable entry points it is a simple swap. A more powerful shower may need a larger cable and its own circuit, which we check first.
Why is my shower leaking through the ceiling below?
Most often failed sealant or grout, a loose waste under the tray, or a leaking pipe joint behind the valve. We test each in turn so the right thing gets fixed.
Why is my shower pressure so weak?
A scaled head or hose is the first thing to check. If that is clear, the cause is the system itself: a gravity-fed tank, a failing pump or low mains pressure.
Which areas do you cover for shower repair?
We cover the whole Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames: Kingston town centre, Norbiton, Surbiton, Berrylands, Tolworth, New Malden, Old Malden, Chessington and Hook (KT1, KT2, KT3, KT5, KT6 and KT9).
