Cold Water Storage Tanks
Cold Water Storage Tanks
Old galvanised or uncovered loft tanks are a hygiene and leak risk. Replacing one is straightforward and protects the whole gravity system below it.
About this service
Cold Water Storage Tanks in South West London, done properly the first time
We replace cold water storage tanks with WRAS-approved plastic tanks, fitted with a sealed lid, insect screens, proper insulation and a new float valve — plus a service valve so the tank can be isolated without draining the roof space.
We also fix overflowing tanks, replace corroded ball valves and re-support tanks sitting directly on ceiling joists, which is a common defect in Kingston upon Thames's older lofts and a real risk of a ceiling collapse.

Frequently asked
Your questions, answered
Do I still need a loft tank?
Only on gravity systems. If you're moving to a combi or unvented cylinder the tank can usually be removed entirely — we'll advise.
Why is my loft tank overflowing?
A worn float valve washer or a valve set too high. It's an inexpensive fix and stops water running down the outside wall.
Is my old galvanised tank a problem?
They corrode and often lack a proper lid, which risks contamination. Replacement with a covered plastic tank is the standard fix.
Can a tank freeze in the loft?
Yes, if insulation is missing. We insulate the tank and its pipework — and never insulate directly under the tank, so warmth from below reaches it.
